Newquay and Goodwood

Just a quick note to say thanks to the Greenpower team for two great events that we attended last week - our local heat at Newquay then the Goodwood heat. We had mixed fortunes at Newquay with RLR 3 taking two race victories with only a couple of gremlins, but unfortunately RLR 2 had a significant crash with a chainlink fence running down the backstraight. RLR 2 has now been retired as the damage to the monocoque was pretty significant, but most parts will be recycled into RLR 4 over the winter. Congratulations to the Weald School for their wins at Goodwood with Bluebird which is going very well. We were challenging for the lead early on in the race however our lap times dropped off prematurely so we ended up claiming 2nd spot. On return to the pits however we found our drive wheel was completely flat with a puncture, so not too bad considering... We were hoping race 2 would be without incident but the decision to shorten to 60 minutes left us unable to respond as the news came whilst we were already on the grid. RLR 3 is a single speed relay driven car so we couldn't do anything about the last minute announcement. If perhaps we had known a little earlier in the day that this was the plan we would have loved to have given a 60 minute race a proper attempt with appropriate gearing. Those with multiple ratios or flexibility in their speed controllers clearly had the advantage in this situation, never mind and next time!
Well done to all those taking part, it's a challenge simply getting a car and team to a race and competing! See you at Castle Combe...
